The Pahalgam Terror Attack of April 22, 2025: Innocents Killed and Injured
A regular Tuesday amidst the lush greenery of Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam– the ideal scenery for any tourist visiting Kashmir. Labelled mini-Switzerland for its picturesque beauty, Kashmir had seen an impressive rise in tourism over the past year. But the tourist would not have dreamt in their worst nightmares what was to happen to them soon. With tourism at its peak in Kashmir, April 22 became a day of mourning instead of cheerful, happy memories. Pahalgam Terror Attack happened and those who came with packed bags, went back home with baggage of trauma of seeing their loved ones falling to the ground. Why? Because of religion.
The inhumane terror attack on tourists in such a serene spot has wreaked havoc, chaos and fear. It left at least 26 dead and several injured. They came with a clear aim: To kill Hindus or non-Muslims, destroy tourism in Kashmir, lead locals to the road of unemployment and then feed them money to take on terrorism. Has humanity really come to this? Is religion greater than humanity now? Is taking innocent lives the only way left to take revenge from the government?
The Act of Inhumanity: Pahalgam Terror Attack
When the visitors were chilling amidst the serenity of the valley, the attackers emerged from the bushes with their arms and ammunition. The 4-5 disguised ‘cowards’ who needed weapons to strike and kill the innocents created chaos for more than 10 minutes. The most horrifying few minutes since 2019.
As per the survivors, the terrorists attacked only men, rather than Hindu men. Neither women, nor children. Only men. Even when the women begged them to kill them too with their husbands, they didn’t. They deliberately let the women live, so they can go back and let the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi know. They also asked people to recite verses from Islam, and when one couldn’t, they would mercilessly shoot them in front of family members.
The attackers didn’t see which part of India was a tourist from. They just saw whether one was Muslim. If not, they shot him dead. One amongst them was Lt. Vinay Narwal, who got married just a week ago and was on his honeymoon with wife Himanshi Narwal. Bengaluru’s Bharat Bhushan was another amongst the attacked.
In Kashmir’s one of the most famous tourist spots, terrorists came, opened fire, claimed lives, and retired back into the bushes.
Government and Public Response
In no time, the air was filled with wails. What was supposed to be a relaxing picnic, became the most disturbing event. Those who survived are traumatised for life. All of Srinagar’s hospitals are flooded with injured, attacked and survivors from the incident. Tourism hot spots in Kashmir are on red alert and people are just running to save their lives.
TRF (The Resistance Front) has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating their unhappiness with outsiders settling on their land as the reason.
Narendra Modi, who was on his way to Saudi Arabia, has returned back to address the issue at hand. Home Minister Amit Shah met the victims’ families to pay condolences.
The CCS (Cabinet Committee on Security) has also suggested five major actions against Pakistan owing to this attack. These include suspension of the Indus water Treaty, the closing of the Attari-Wagah border, expulsion of Pakistani Defense Advisors, reduction of Diplomatic Staff in Islamabad and revocation of SAARC Visa Exemptions for Pakistani Nationals. Pakistani citizens currently in India under these exemptions have 48 hours to leave the country.
From candlelight vigils in Mumbai to mass protests in Delhi, India’s anger is boiling over. Citizens demand action, not just words. Hashtags like #JusticeForPahalgamVictims and #TerrorInKashmir is trending on social media.
Conclusion: The Silence After the Storm
The Pahalgam massacre is more than an attack on tourists; it is a strike against the very soul of a nation striving for peace. As India mourns its dead, one thing is certain: the lush valleys of Kashmir, once a symbol of beauty, now echo with a darker reality. The coming days will reveal whether India’s response will be enough to restore faith in the promise of safe travel and secure borders.
