This year, Non-Resident Indian Day will be organized in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha from 8 to 10th January 2025. The Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will graciously present the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards, and acknowledge and honour the outstanding accomplishments of all non-resident Indians.
Odisha is mainly known for the Shri Jagannath Temple, where Shri Jagannath is revered and treated like a king. Bhubaneswar, the vibrant capital of Odisha, stands as one of the most prominent cities in one of India’s largest states. Surrounded by lush greenery, Bhubaneswar is also known as the ‘Temple City of India,’ with temples adorning every corner.
Because of its rich traditional and cultural heritage, Bhubaneswar is considered a suitable place to celebrate Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2025 Theme
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, also referred to as Non-Resident Indian Day, is commemorated biennially to honour the pivotal contributions of Pravasi Bharatiya (Non-Resident Indians) towards the advancement and prosperity of India. This year’s theme is “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat.” It highlights the pivotal role of the global Indian community in achieving India’s vision of becoming a “Viksit Bharat” or a developed India.
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2025 Chief Guest
In celebration of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), the Ministry of External Affairs extended an invitation to Christine Carla Kangaloo, the President of Trinidad and Tobago, to be the chief guest for the event. During this event, she will also participate in several programs, including interacting with the school students of Godibari Government School in Chandaka.
Who is Christine Carla Kangaloo?
Born in a Presbyterian Indo-Tinidadian family, Christian Kangaloo graduated in law from the University of the West Indies and Wooding Law School. She began her law career in the 1990s and later joined politics in 2021. If we talk about her progress, she has successfully held several ministerial positions in the Cabinet, including legal affairs, tertiary education, science and technology, among others.
In 2015, she became president of the Senate of Trinidad and Tobago and assumed the role of President in 2023. Christine Kangaloo is the only person to have successfully served in both positions Vice President and President of Trinidad and Tobago. Moreover, she was honoured as the first female to hold the position of Senate Vice President and the third woman to assume the role of Acting President of Trinidad and Tobago.
