How Has Bigg Boss Season 18 differed From Previous Seasons?

Published on

Okay, first things first. Is Salman Khan quitting as the host of the show?

There were rumours that Salman Khan was not continuing with the upcoming season of the very famous Indian reality show, Bigg Boss. This left fans heartbroken because Bigg Boss without Sallu bhai is like a plant without flowers. But all such rumours have been crushed with the official teaser being out. And now, there’s just excitement all around. The latest season will premiere on October 06, 2024, from 9 P.M., on Colours TV and Jio Cinema. This year, actors like Nia Sharma, Sameera Reddy, Arjun Bijlani, Karan Patel, Dalljeet Kaur are reportedly going to be a part of the Bigg Boss House.

What makes the show different?

The reality show that first aired in 2006 on Sony TV and gained a lot of popularity is now on its Season 18. Salman Khan has been associated with the show for almost all the seasons. But what is it that keeps the audience hooked to the show?

There are a lot of elements that make the audience feel a connection with the contestants.

The most appealing of them all is that the contestants are not just random people, but celebrities. Actors like Hina Khan, Rakhi Sawant, Sidharth Shukla, Rahul Roy and many more big names have been a part of the show. They have a lot of fans and followers and when they get associated with a show, automatically the show’s viewership increases manifold.

Secondly, the show requires these contestants to live together in a secluded house that is specially built for the show. This is the first show where all contestants are under CCTV footage all day, every day. This gives the audience an access to look into their favourite contestant’s life. From how they sleep to what they eat, the efforts they put into the games they play, everything is there on national television.

The complex tasks are what bring out the real personality of the stars. Sometimes, the tasks are as disgusting as having a bath in the cow dung, covering the skin with chilli paste and drinking water off a dog bowl. Based on the performance of these tasks, the contestants nominate each other for removal. The audience is involved in the process through voting to save the nominated contestant from leaving the house. The contestant who receives the least votes has to quit. At other times, the contestants find themselves trapped in a situation where they must betray a housemate in order to save themselves from nomination. This must really be challenging.

Then, interactions with Salman Khan, the host, are very much looked forward to. He has developed his own ways over the years and his clever comments, his guidance, and sometimes also his scolding add to the essence of the show.

On top of all, the huge drama that comes with the show catches the audience’s attention as well. The letting each other down or supporting each other, the fights over daily chores of the house, the planning and plotting gets viewers more interested to watch it every day. During an argument in the house over kicking off a dustbin, one of the contestants simply just uttered the words, “Pooja, what is this behaviour?”, and the other one said, “Sorry, I kicked it by mistake.” These are very basic dialogues but viewers are so into the show that they got stuck on these words so much that this dialogue became a source for many memes on social media. Now, when someone has to ask someone what is up with them, they simply just refer to this scene.

How is this Bigg Boss Season Different?

With every season, the bars of expectations are raised. There’s always something new that comes with Bigg Boss, but what remains constant is controversy, some romance and a lot of catfights. If you are a Bigg Boss fan, buckle up your seatbelts because this time, you’re in for a crazy adventure. All of the above will be there, with some more added drama, spiced up with more alliances formed, and served in a way no one would understand what’s happening, much like being on a roller coaster. The new season’s promo reveals that the show has come up with a unique theme of “Time Ka Taandav”.  Previously, the contestants were challenged only mentally and emotionally, but this time it’s something really mind-boggling. The name suggests that it could be a twist related to time travelling; something about the past, present and future. During the many tasks, the decisions contestants take could impact their performance in the future. So unpredictable and exciting!

There are rumours that old contestants would be joining the show as well and it would only get more dramatic as the new contestants would be no less. The general personality of the contestants revealed so far is bold and outspoken meaning there would be a lot of confrontations and calling out.

The Indian audience lives for the drama and when it is served so well on a box, one just needs to sit with some popcorn handy and stay up to date with what’s happening in the house. After all, they also have to discuss it on social media.
