What is the Significance of Diwali 2024 Laxmi Puja?

To understand the significance of celebrating Diwali, you should understand the story behind it. There are some stories surrounding Diwali, but these three are the main reasons we celebrate Diwali.

As per Hindu cultures and traditions, Diwali represents a day of victory of good over bad.  If we talk about northern India, Diwali is celebrated to welcome Lord Rama after defeating Ravan. In southern India, Diwali commemorates Lord Krishna’s triumph over the demon Narakasura.

This story is about the ‘story of Goddess Laxmi.’ According to some sources, during the time of Samunder Manthan, several auspicious treasures emerged, and Goddess Laxmi Ji was one of them. She decided to choose Lord Vishnu to be her consort. From that day, she was considered the symbol of wealth, prosperity, and fortune.

Diwali 2024 Laxmi Puja: Step-by-Step Procedure

Goddess Lakshmi puja is the crucial event of the Diwali celebration, and that’s why one should be careful about the rules and rituals of Laxmi puja. Here in this section, we will explain the step-by-step procedure to do laxmi puja in the right manner:

Step 1: Properly clean the puja room with water and bathe the deity of Lakshmi and Ganesh with water, rose water, or Panchamitra.

Step 2: Put a red cloth on the table and put some grains of rice in the center. Now place a bronze/ silver pot or kalash full of water on the grains.

Step 3: Now place Goddess Lakshmi’s ji idol in the center and Lord Ganesh’s ji idol on the right side of the Lakshmi idol.

Step 4: Now put some whole rice grains, haldi, lotus flower, and some coins on the small thali in front of the idols.

You can also place your account book or any wealth-related thing in front of the idol.

Step 5: Apply tilak to all the deities, Kalash, and now light up the diyas in front of the deities. Lightning diyas represent the victory over darkness.

Step 6: Now keep flowers in your hands and recite the Diwali puja mantra. After the Diwali puja mantra, offer that flower that you kept in your hand to the deities.

Step 7: Now recite Lakshmi ji and Ganesh ji aarti and offer sweets and fruits to both deities.

This way, your Diwali’s Lakshmi Pujan concludes.
