There may be a lot of indifference amongst us today, but there’s one thing we would all collectively agree on. It is that time is precious. In today’s world, everyone has so much to do but time always falls short. Commuting itself takes up so much time that there’s hardly any left to do anything else. Everyone is just on a lookout for a shortcut to reach the destination to buy some time and focus better. In such a case, there’s nothing better than an alternative that cuts down the travel to more than half, right?
Well, if you’re someone who has to move daily between Meerut and Delhi, here’s good news. Now you can commute between the two in just 40 minutes! No, we’re not kidding. Namo Bharat is here to reduce your travel time and increase efficiency. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) leads the project designed to create rapid transit systems in major areas in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Travel Revolutionised
Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), or Namo Bharat, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 05, 2025, isn’t your usual train.
It is a pollution-free EMU designed for faster transit services. With an aerodynamic design, it runs seamlessly reducing air drag. It is around 82 kilometers long and connects Delhi with Meerut and Ghaziabad. So, if you’ve to travel on a daily basis between Delhi and Meerut and are frustrated by the traffic and long commuting hours, your better days are here. Now, you’ll be covering the same distance in just 40 minutes! So, what would be the cost of this luxury, you’d ask? Don’t worry, it’s very minimal and super affordable. In fact, the fares start from as low as just Rs. 150 for standard-class coaches! That’s right, you’re not dreaming. Reduced travel hours and such a minimal price, it’s definitely a win-win situation.
Stand-Out Features
This recent development has already gained mass attention and interest. Below mentioned are the features that make Namo Bharat truly stand out.
- The broader vision behind this project is to carry out a rapid transit system in key NCR regions, and so it does. With a design speed of 180 km/hr, this train is the first public transport in India that can run at a speed of 160 km/hr, becoming the fastest. Because of this, the travel time between Delhi and Meerut is reduced to more than half of that via road. Not only does it reduce travel frustration, but also allows one to enjoy more time with family and close ones.
- Not only does it save a lot of time, but it is also lenient on the pocket. A standard coach can range anywhere between Rs. 20 and Rs 150. However, if you don’t mind spending a little more and want to enjoy luxury, then the premium coach is available between Rs 30 and Rs. 225. Since it is so affordable, it is a cost-effective alternative to taxis and private vehicles. Such an introduction was designed for increased transit pace but also works in favour of the environment indirectly. Not only will the pollution be reduced, but even the congested roads will finally have a sigh of relief.
- Unlike usual trains that have limited and fixed hours of departure, this RRTS runs every 15 minutes. So, if you’re an office goer and have missed the train, you don’t need to fret because another will be there in less than 15 minutes! This again is so convenient, whether you commute to the office or to college.
- Now, this isn’t a traditional, old-school train. Rather, the stations are so modern that you’d feel you’re living in a foreign land. There are escalators, lifts and even air-conditioned coaches. The track runs smoothly even in the densely populated areas between Vaishali and New Ashok Nagar because it is underground. Anand Vihar also boasts the only underground station. Such accessibility will boost tourism and travel between the two major hubs.
The Route and Stations
Another question you’d have is on what locations are the stations made? So, the 82-kilometre-long stretch comprises multiple stations, some elevated while some underground, starting from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi. From there, it moves through various locations before reaching Meerut, making it convenient for all respective commuters.
Below stated are all the 11 functional stations so far:
- The first station is the Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi.
- Next is East Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar.
- The next station is situated in Anand Vihar which is also a key hub for people travelling by metro and railway.
- Next in line is Ghaziabad.
- Next it is situated in Guldhar.
- Duhai Depot, which is also an important operational hub, has the next station.
- Then it is placed in Muradnagar.
- A lot of commuters forming the students and employees find it convenient in Modinagar, the next station.
- The train then enters Meerut through the station in Meerut South.
- Next is the most happening part of Meerut, the Meerut Central.
- The last station is at Begumpul sitting in Meerut North. Mostly Meerut’s locals benefit from this station.
Conclusion
The Namo Bharat is what India needed lately and we’re glad it’s here. Though it is operational in only one part yet, we’re sure it will be successful. And with its success, it will slowly and gradually reach every part of India. It is a sign of India’s development and growing efficiency. It is not only faster but also a much cheaper alternative to all other communication modes between Delhi and Meerut. Now, the crowded roads or overpacked buses aren’t a problem. By choosing this option, you’re benefiting yourself and also the environment.
