Planetary Parade 2025: Most Exciting Cosmic Show from Earth on January 21, 2025

Published on

Do you remember when you last looked up at the night sky to count the stars? Or when you looked at them and imagined shapes they form? Can’t recollect, right? Well, honestly we don’t blame you also. With so much pollution, the night sky isn’t even visible clearly. If not that, life is so busy that one rarely gets time out.

But, 2025 seems like a year you break this monotony and finally gaze up at the beauty. Take a break, make a lifestyle change and go back into your past where family would sit outside together at night when the lights would go out. While nostalgia is enough for you to consider this plan, we have another reason for you to do so. The universe will align, literally, to give you a view of a lifetime! January 21, and for up to 4 weeks from then, 6 major planets will be visible from the Earth’s surface! Not just that, they’ll appear arranged in a single line, a lot like in a parade. Doesn’t that sound exciting?

Planetary Parade 2025

What is a Planetary Parade?

A Planetary Parade, as the name suggests, is the alignment of planets in such a way that they seem to be arranged in a straight line. While they may not actually be in a straight line, they seem so when viewed from a far-off surface. In fact, in space they are actually many miles away from each other though from Earth they would seem to be very close. The arrangement happens because the planets revolve around the Sun and every once in a while they come in this position, that seems like they are in a straight line.

In 2025, this spectacle will be visible twice; once in January and then in March. In January, the planets that will align and be visible from Earth are Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Further in March, Mercury will also join the earlier-mentioned planets in their cosmic show.

How, When, Where to Best Enjoy the View

In January, this unreal sight will be visible from Earth January 21 onwards. It will stay for about four weeks. In India, the best visibility would be at night, around 8:30 p.m., when the sun has set and the sky is dark. While it will be visible worldwide, a rural area with less city lights will have a better view than an urban area. An area with lesser pollution will have an equally better view. Even if your area has less pollution and lights, clouds could obstruct your view. It would be better to plan ahead and check your area’s weather forecast timely. So, if you have a deep interest in what happens up there and want to observe closely, consider relocating now!

Also, while the naked eye could still spot Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, a telescope would be required to see Neptune and Uranus.

If you want to just look at the planets and enjoy the view, then you’ll be good. But, if you have a deeper interest than others, apps like SkySafari, Star Walk or Stellarium could help you identify and locate the planet’s real-time position. How cool!

What makes it special

Firstly, something of this sort doesn’t happen frequently. So, it should not be missed while it happens. And secondly, in the digitally-dominated era, going back to old times would feel as refreshing as it would feel nostalgic. And, it is going to be around for about a month, so it is a great opportunity to look at the sky and admire the sheer beauty. Think of it as an opportunity to pause your rushed life and just sit in the arms of the Universe and its magic. It is just so amazing what all can happen around us and that too in silence.

Conclusion

For the planets, it is just their regular movement, but for us, it is magic. Almost all the planets aligned and visible from Earth will be a spectacle not to be missed. You must bring your family together and look at the wonderful sight that nature has to offer. This will be a great opportunity to reconnect with whatever you have lost connection- be it family or nature.
