Thanakarn Kantheei, widely known online as “Bank Leicester,” was offered 30,000 Thai baht (approximately Rs. 75,228) to participate in the risky bet during a birthday party in the Thai Mai district of Chanthaburi. Reports indicate that this was not his first extreme challenge, as he had previously consumed substances like hand sanitizer and wasabi in exchange for money.
About The Deadly Bet
On Christmas Day, Kanthee, who lived with intellectual disabilities, was already under the influence of alcohol when he accepted the challenge to drink two 350ml bottles of whisky-one for 10,000 baht each. He managed to finish both within 20 minutes. Tragically, he collapsed shortly after and was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead due to alcohol poisoning. Experts caution that consuming excessive amounts of alcohol in a short time can result in severe consequences, including coma or death.
Arrest and Investigation
Following the incident, the Thai police arrested the individual who organized the challenge. During the investigation, police seized many things from his residence such as mobile phones, passbooks, and multiple SIM cards. During interrogation, the man confessed to reckless behavior that caused Kanthee’s death. For this crime, he punished jail for upto ten years with a punishable fine of amount around 20,000 baht which approximately Rs. 50,152 in Indian currency.

The heartbreaking event has sparked widespread outrage, with social media users condemning the partygoers for encouraging such dangerous behavior. Disturbing footage from the scene shows the crowd cheering as Kanthee collapsed. It highlighting the disregard for his well-being and also raises questions about the showoff business on social media. Before this incident, a few days ago, Kanthee published a post on social media highlighting their situation and need for money. This revelation has struck a chord with many, highlighting the pressures and challenges he faced.
This whole incident reminds us of the dangers one can face if uses social media inappropriately.
