For centuries, people have considered the Ganga River a cleansing agent. However, nowadays, people are spreading rumors about Maha Kumbh 2025, claiming that sewage leakage contamination puts millions of devotees at risk while bathing in the holy water.
This news spreads like fire in a forest, but it won’t shake the faith of devotees. Media reports state that millions of devotees still visit Maha Kumbh Mela daily to take a holy dip.
On this, the Chief Minister of UP, Yogi Adityanath, rejected all the reports and stated that devotees can safely bathe and perform aachman in the water.
Many political parties accuse the UP government of failing to take precautions regarding the Triveni River cleaning process.
What parameter is used to check the quality of river water?
The parameter used to check the purity of river water totally depends on the level of biological oxygen demand (BOD). Governmental analysis defines biological oxygen demand as a measure of how much oxygen organisms need to clean up organic materials in a water body.
Why does it matter?
If the oxygen demand in water is too high, the available oxygen might run out. A water body with high BOD levels can indicate pollution issues. This also indicates that oxygen gets used up faster than it can be naturally replenished.
What do experts say about it?
According to the Maha Kumbh 2025 authorities, there is a highly efficient waste management system installed at the Maha Kumbha which ensures that wastewater or sewage matter is treated daily efficiently and prevents it from discharging into the river.
With millions of devotees arriving daily, Maha Kumbh 2025’s waste management initiative sets a benchmark for large-scale gatherings worldwide.
On this, the Special Executive Officer of Maha Kumbha Mela, Akanksha Rana said “The commitment to a clean and sustainable Maha Kumbh guided by the vision of PM Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath. It achieved remarkable progress. Despite welcoming over 64 crore pilgrims, the Kumbh Mela has successfully maintained a garbage-free, plastic-free, and hygienic environment. This makes the Maha Kumbh 2025 a model for future religious congregations. To accommodate the vast gathering, over 1.5 lakh toilets of various types such as FRP units, soak-pits, and mobile setups have been strategically placed throughout the venue. To further optimise waste disposal, authorities have deployed 37 lakh garbage liner bags throughout the event.”
Wrapping Up
In a nutshell, rumors about sewage contamination in the Triveni Riverhave sparked widespread debate, but scientific tests and evaluations suggest that devotees can safely bathe in the water. The government’s effective wastewater management strategies and improved sewage treatment measures keep the situation under control.
