Open social media and it is filled with the ‘ghiblified’ portraits of people’s normal images. And why not, everyone loves to see a caricature version of themselves. Only x100 cuter. Not just themselves, people are turning their pets and everyday surroundings into their Ghibli version. 

It is probably a longing for a dreamlike existence that this art form creates that is making users turn each photo into a ghibli portrait.

How to turn a Normal Photo into Ghibli AI Portrait

But how is everyone doing it is the question. 

Recently, ChatGPT OpenAI introduced this feature in its latest image generation update. It allows users to turn their normal, mundane photos into interesting Ghibli AI portraits. 

Here’s how it works:

Firstly, one is required to open ChatGPT Open AI and upload a photo and give the AI a prompt such as, “Convert this image into a Ghibli style portrait”.

Then, the AI obeys the command and takes a little while to create the masterpiece. But trust us, it is worth the wait because what one gets is so unreal and beautiful.

If one is not satisfied with the outcome, they can tell the Ghibli AI to make the necessary changes and it will. 

Now download the image and post it on your social media!

But be careful, if you are using the free version, there is a hard set limit as to the number of images you can ask the AI to generate. So, pick only the best ones or those that are very close to your heart.

Alternatively, you can get the paid version and avail unlimited Ghibli conversions. The paid version costs $20, about INR 1720. If it suits your pockets, go ahead!

What to do if you can’t access ChatGPT but want a Ghibli AI Image?

For any reason, if you are not able to access your ChatGPT account, don’t get sad. You can still convert your pictures to Ghibli Art and follow the Ghibli AI Trend. There are other alternatives that will do just the work. Some of them are:

• Gemini and GrokAI can also create such images, though with some assistance. They require proper detailed prompts like ‘two young girls playing cheerfully under a tree, their hair flowing with the wind.”
• Craiyon is another option that can develop the image with basic prompts.
• Artbreeder lets you blend images and make a few changes.
• Runway ML is yet another powerful AI-driven art tool that enables style transfers.

Ghibli Art v/s Traditional Art

While almost everyone is too engrossed in daily converting their images to Ghibli portraits to think about anything else, some are not happy with the trend. They fear that this Ghibli art challenges the very essence of traditional forms of art. Studio Ghibli’s co-founder Hayao Miyazaki himself had shown his disdain for AI-generated art, calling it an “insult to life itself.” 

What exactly does it challenge? Critics believe that as addictive as it may be, it devalues human artistry. Where in traditional forms, one spends years in training and mastering a technique, this art form develops the Ghibli version within seconds like a shortcut. They also state that since the AI can do the work in minutes, will companies stop hiring humans then? This will drastically impact the artists’ livelihood.
